Micromax the emerging mobile phone company plunged into the tablet pc market with micromax funbook tab. Its a loaded edutainment device as propagated by the vendor micromax. It was launched soon after people started criticizing about the poor performing aakash tablet. It was indeed a wise business decision by micromax to provide all that aakash lacked at reasonable price. Micromax funbook indeed impresses with its specifications and price.
Processor and performance review:
Micromax funbook runs on a 1.2 Ghz Cortex A8 processor, has 512 mb of RAM. It also comes with a dual mali 400 mhz dedicated video processor which is the reason behind micromax’s claim about the tablet playing HD 1080 pixels video smoothly. And yes , HD videos do run hassle free on micromax tablet without hangs or glitches. The high performance processor and 512 mb RAM make multi tasking easy. You can run quite a few applications all simultaneously without any problems. Overall funbook’s processor and memory impart nice multimedia experience whether is browsing web , playing games or listening music and watching HD vidoes.
Dimensional Looks: Funbook is dimensionally quite slim and looks attractive. In my opinion this is the slimmest tab within its price range.
Touch screen review:
The 7 inch capacitive touch screen is not what you can complain about much. Although it doesn’t compare to that of high end devices like ipad, galaxy tab etc in terms of responsiveness however if you have not had your hands on the high end ones you will find it satisfactory enough. The multi touch works fine and you need not press your fingers against the screen to navigate or trigger button, a slight touch does the job. Typing at touch keyboard is not difficult , but i won’t either say its too good. However its much much better then that of aakash tablet while navigating through menus , playing games and typing.
Battery review:
The only thing that i wish should have been is a battery with higher capacity. The 2800 mah battery lags behind its competitors. In a country like india where people seem to be high battery life obsessed a stronger battery life for micromax funbook would have been a plus point. It however provides a 4-5 hours of continued usage time which is just average.

1)Attitude Daksha: The attitude tab was recently introduced by Telmoco development labs and will be sold for Rs. 5399. It comes with a 1.2 Ghz Arm cortex A8 processor compared to 800 Mhz processor of akash tablet. It has a dedicated 400 Mhz graphics processor to ensure you maximum multimedia experience. 4gb internal memory and 512 mb RAM surpass those of aakash tablet which comes with 2 Gb internal memory and 256 mb RAM.The external memory can be upgraded to 32 gb via sd card slot.The touch screen is 800×480 resolution capacitive that supports multitouch. It has Wi-Fi as the only connectivity option and lacks GPRS and SIM Card support. 3.5 mm audio jack is present. The operating system is android 4.0 Icecream sandwich

The Funbook tab by micromax does well when it comes to specifications and outdoes aakash tablet in everything but price. With hardware configurations almost similar to attitude tab it is priced slightly higher.It comes with 1.2 Ghz Arm cortex A8 processor and also has 400 Mhz dedicated video processor. The 7 inch touch screen is capacitive in nature with a resolution of 800*480 pixels. Internal memory is 4 gb and the RAM is 512 mb. Micromax funbook supports micro USB and has wi-fi connectivity. 3.5 mm audio jack , Accelerometer sensor and gravity sensor are present.

3)Wishtel Ira:
Wishtel is the company whichws oubid by datawind for providing cheap tablet pcs to indian government. Ira the tablet by wishtel is a moderate tablet pc and can be a good alternative to aakash tablet. Powered by 800 Mhz processor , 2 Gb internal memory and 256 mb RAM it compares to aakash closely. It has wi-fi and USB 2.0 support as connectivity options. You can use 3g via external dongles and datacards. The battery capacity of Wishtel Ira is 2800 Mah which is just enough to provide a decent running time of upto 5 hours over 3g and wi-fi.

4)Wespro s714:
The S714 tablet pc manufactured by Wespro india is another competition in queue for aakash tablet. The processor is same 800 Mhz , 256 mb RAM and 4 Gb inbuilt memory expandable via external microsd card upto 32 gb. The 7” resistive display doesn’t impresses much. Wespro S714 has a 300k pixel camera , supports USB and has wi-fi inbuilt. The battery however disappoints with a capacity of 1450 mah. It runs on andorid 2.3 gingerbread.

Magnum pepper by Lakshmi communications is another tablet pc manufactured by an indian company. It runs on android 2.2 and is powered by a 800 Mhz processor. It has a 7” resistive display with standard 800*480 pixel resolution, supports Wi-Fi and 3g via USB dongles, has a front faced camera that can be used as webcam. The inbuilt memory is 2 Gb and also has gravity sensors.
